Nephi Plates

About Nephi Plates

What it is

Nephi Plates is a scripture reading app for the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, Old Testament, and New Testament. Rather than a long page of text, it presents scripture one verse at a time — swipe, scroll, or tap to move through a chapter — with tools for saving verses, following a guided reading plan, tracking a personal Faith growth tracker, and praying for others in a shared queue.

The problem it's designed to solve

Reading scripture on a phone often means either a dense wall of text borrowed from a printed book, or a feature-heavy app that gets in the way of the text itself. Nephi Plates was built around a simpler idea: put one verse on the screen at a time, make it easy to move through at your own pace, and layer in study tools — context, word studies, real General Conference citations — only when you actually tap in for them.

Product philosophy

A few decisions run through the whole app:

  • The core reading experience needs no account. Reading, saving, reading plans, and the Faith tracker all work fully offline — an account is only asked for when a feature genuinely requires one (Prayers, comments, notes, cross-device sync).
  • AI content is a study aid, clearly labeled as one. The app's AI-generated verse content is written to be doctrinally careful, but it's explicitly offered as a study aid — not official teaching — and is generated once per verse and shared by everyone, never built from your personal data.
  • Real citations stay real. General Conference talk links shown on a verse aren't a model's guess — they're extracted directly from each talk's own published footnotes, so nothing is ever cited that wasn't actually cited.
  • No ads, no ad trackers. Nephi Plates doesn't include advertising SDKs or third-party analytics trackers.

Scripture text

The Book of Mormon text is the 1830 first edition. The Old and New Testament text is the King James Version. The Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price text is drawn from public-domain editions — all in the public domain in the United States.

Who develops it
